RLST311: Father Murders Family and Claims They Betrayed Islam

A man from Montreal and his oldest son are charged with murdering his first wife and three daughters. They were found in a car submerged in the Rideau Canal in Kingston, Ont., and upon suspicion of the crime, the police planted microphones in their home and van. Three weeks later there was enough evidence to prosecute, including a recording of the father saying that he didn’t care if he was ‘hoisted onto the gallows, his honour was more important’. He said that the reason he murdered them was that they had betrayed Islam and tradition. He compared them to prostitutes because they had boyfriends, and had no regret in what he had done. People were horrified by this as they listened to the evidence at trial in Ontario.

This is also bad news coverage for the religion of Islam, giving people opinions about what Muslim people believe. This is an extreme radical form, and seems that the person (and perhaps cultural influence) should be the one to blame, not the religion. For this happening in Canada, it is very unacceptable and the religion is often blamed because of previous stories of ‘honour-killings’. Despite whether this man believes it is justified, the court thinks otherwise.

In another article he says that they brought it upon themselves by acting in such a way. Also in that article it says he denied the charges and claimed he woke up one morning as they were travelling back from vacation to find them gone. This was very unlikely as his story changed within the courtroom and in the face of evidence, he is guilty.
